What Does it Mean to Be Born Again?

In John 3:3, Jesus said to Nicodemus, "Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus replied, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

What does it mean to be born again? You've probably heard this term your whole life. You may have even called yourself a "born again Christian." But have you considered what it means?

Everyone is born physically alive, but we are spiritually dead. As descendants of Adam, we have inherited his sin nature, separated from God. And the only way we can be right with God is to be born from above. We need the life of God in the soul of an otherwise dead man.

When you hear the gopel, that Jesus died on the cross for your sins and rose again from the grave, and you repent and put your faith in Jesus, He will raise your spirit from the dead and give you new life, a Spirit-filled life, that loves God and desires His will. And you are born again.

Ephesians 2:4-6 says, "But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved, and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places."

"For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Corinthians 15:22). In Him we are born "not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:13). So no longer live in your old dead ways, but according to the new birth you have been given, when we understand the text.
